Austin’s continued growth and success depend on a strong, well-supported public safety system. Today, our city is facing critical staffing shortages across police, fire, and EMS putting increased strain on those who serve and protect our community every day.

Hundreds of positions remain unfilled, and many experienced professionals are leaving these careers altogether. Without action, this challenge will continue to impact public safety, emergency response times, and the overall well-being of our city.

First responders protect our communities and ensure that major events—ACL, SXSW, F1—can occur without incident. Their roles are essential to Austin’s thriving economy, safety, and so much more.
